And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.” Suffering produces perseverance, which builds character and ultimately leads to hope.
So, what does the Bible say about hope through the lives of its leaders? David spent much of his life facing adversity, even while earnestly seeking and obeying God. Joseph was betrayed by his own brothers, sold into slavery, falsely accused, and imprisoned. Yet in every trial, he held on to hope—not in his circumstances, but in God’s faithfulness.

Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. 17 For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. 18 So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.”
